Friday

Well on Friday 31 July 2009 I moved out of my old house. This in itself was a challenge.
Removalists turned up at 7:40am which was fabulous. Everything was out of house by about 10:00am. Held up slightly because it kept raining, so the guys kept stopping so all the boxes and furniture didn’t get sopping wet.
Dad attempted to mow the lawn with his injured hand whilst this was going on. I’d actually asked my neighbour Les to do it the week before, but he obviously forgot. Which was annoying, but I didn’t want to remind him because that would have been rude.
So I had asked mum to be at the new place because Telstra was coming between 10 - 2pm and I couldn’t be in 2 places at once. So the Removalists and I get to the new house about 10:15am only to find the guys are there putting in the ducted air conditioning, so I’ve got the 2 removalists, and the 2 air conditioner guys climbing over each other literally trying to get stuff in the roof, while the removalists bring furniture in.
Luckily they were happy to work around each other, so we kept taking the ladder away from the air con guys, and they just yelled when they needed to get out of the roof.
So the removalists leave about 11:30am, all done!! Thank god.
So I bring the ute in and start unloading some stuff I didn’t want them to take because I didn’t want them damaged. By this time there are 4 trucks/utes/vans in the driveway and people going everywhere!! (Air con guys totalled 5 in the end...each doing different parts of installation)
So by this time the Telstra guy has also turned up, so I get mum to run back to the old house to start cleaning and get dad. Well Telstra runs into a huge problem in that the cable is stuck halfway up the driveway. Nothing he can do about it, and definitely can’t hook me up.
Many phone calls are made to Andrew the Real Estate agent, who eventually tells me to ring the Construction company myself....WTF!!!!!...
I give up, Telstra guy gives up and he leaves, and tells me to ring them back when the cable is fixed.
So mum comes back because dad wanted some lunch (like I hadn’t eaten either thanks!!!) so I get her to stay because the guys are still doing the air con, and I run back over to clean. By this time its 12:40pm and the carpet cleaners are coming at 1:00pm. They turn up within 5 minutes of me getting there, so we are tripping over each other as I try to load the last of the cleaning stuff on dads ute, so that I can go back in and clean the floors of the kitchen and laundry. WELL then the woman who is buying the house turns up!!! ARGGGGGHHHHHH.... she is trying to move in, as we are finishing moving out.
So we talk for a few minutes, and she tells me not to worry about cleaning, as she didn’t have much choice but to move in today because her daughter’s house was being demolished and she needed to move out on 31 July as well.
By this time the carpet cleaners are getting really really shitty cause they are trying to do the carpets. I apologise profusely and tell them she wasn’t supposed to move in until later in the day. I pay them, and grab my dad and we leave....... for the time being!!
So by the time I get back to the new place the last air con guy is leaving, and we can sit down for a few minutes and rest.
So we unpack rest of the ute, have a drink of tea, and then dad and I run back over to the old house, to grab the lawn mower and the empty boxes on the back porch, give Anne (the new owner, not my mum) the spare keys and the control I found I had accidently packed, and leave again.
Good bye old house.....Time 2:00pm
Drop my dad and the ute back to their place and grab my car which still has all the framed pictures in it. Get to new place and unpack everything in car.
Mum and I make my bed at least so I can have a good night’s sleep. Attempt to get boxes in the right rooms, and then dad walks up with his trolley so we can move stuff and stop buggering our backs.
About 4:30pm a friend Charles rocks up to put up the curtains in the lounge room so I have a little bit of privacy. Dad and I put up newspaper on the other windows while mum looks after him.
During this time, I realise they still haven’t put in hot water service, so I start ringing Rivergum homes, and talking to them, cause everything should have been done by Thursday arvo. 5 or 6 calls later, I am no closer to having hot water, or anything else I was suppose to have... phone now at my cap limit!!!....thank god for mobile caps I can tell you.
Finally at about 6:00pm we all give up on trying to move boxes, we are all completely buggered from moving boxes and stuff, and we head back to mums. I grab fish and chips on the way for everyone. Least I can do since mum paid for removalists and carpet cleaners, cause I didn’t have a chance to get to bank.
I’m home and in bed by 7:30pm, just about dead!!! Can’t actually find the bunny ears to my TV. No idea what removalist did with them, can only watch DVD’s in bedroom.

Saturday

Not much happened Saturday. Had cold shower....eewwwww...Went shopping, and came home to man putting in hot water system....YEAH you say.....NO!!! He has put it in, but there is no meter so he can’t connect and light it. Earliest I can ring Origin Energy is 8am Monday morning!!! ARGGGGHHHHHHH
Went to nail appointment, and then met 3 Supreme Court team members at the Seacliff pub for lunch, and to met Karen’s little bub, Bailey. He is sooooooooooo cute. Have photos on my camera, but battery are dead...argh.... I DRANK ALCOHOL!!! I was so frustrated with everything; I resorted to having a drink. It’s been a few years I can tell you
Marius piked like I expected him to, but so did Simon....hung over!!! Lol
More phone calls going backwards and forwards from Kay at River Gum homes (Construction Company) assuring me things will get done. Like the guy to turn up and fix the conduit the Telstra cable is in, etc etc.
Unpack the entire kitchen so I can at least make myself food....
Sunday
Mum and I did all the masses of washing we could find in my house, and then she bought her machine back to my house and we hemmed the lounge curtains, which were massively too long. I started cooking chicken cacciatore while she is sewing them. The machine hates me!!!
Go back to mums and have dinner. Back home and in bed by 8:30pm...still pretty buggered!
FOUND BUNNY EARS!!!! Woohoooo.....
Monday
Stuck home all Monday.. NO ONE turns up. More phone calls made to Kay (all on mobile remember!!) Okay okay, one person did turn up. The man from the Blind company turns up to measure my windows for venetian blinds, and a security door. Making some progress at least, though it will take 3 - 4 weeks before they come.
Assured by Origin Energy that Gas man will come out Tuesday to turn on hot water, yes still don’t have any....showering at mums which is annoying, boiling kettle to wash dishes.
Ring work, because I am suppose to working a booth at Victor Harbor for the school career day, but can’t leave the house because I have no time frame that the gas company will turn up. I just can’t expect my parents to be at the house all day.
Tuesday
Wake up Tuesday morning, rash on right arm is soooo bad because of stress, and both eyes are massively swollen. Look like crap, but can’t even be bothered going to mum’s for shower. Just wet my hair, and hope for the best. Rub masses of cream on all bits that look bad....look a right state, but I am soooooooooooo over it!!
Gas man comes out and puts meter in, walk out back to hot water service to light it....CAN’T DO!!! They haven’t put in one final pipe....*SCREAMS*...so I ring Rivergum and he explains what they need to do. Assured someone will get back to me ASAP. This is 3:30pm by now...
Also enquire why cable guy has not turned up yet, also assured someone will ring me back.
Ring at 4:30pm because no one has rung me. Still stuck in the house.... Kay tells me I can leave because no one works after 4:30pm, go to mums and scream very loudly, and then have a shower!!
A guy finally rings me at 5:15pm saying he will be out within 2 -3 days. I get very annoyed about this; because I was assured everyone would turn up before 12:00pm on Wednesday. This is news to him.
Go home frustrated again, eat a massive packet of chips, but don’t care, too annoyed to be healthy!!!.

Wednesday
Wake up about 2:08am and decide to write a list of everything that has been happening. Considering legal action for all the inconvenience I am being caused.
(Short list) Not installed by 31 July 2009
• Hot water service
• Water tank
• Sprinkler system
• Screens on windows
Other gas man turns up at 8:45am ...have hot water by 9:15am!!! THANK CHRIST. As soon as he backs out of driveway I run to bathroom and have a nice long shower. Feel much better in that respect.
10:00am get a call from the cable guy Chris telling me he had a quick look at the place the night before, and he thinks the conduit has been crushed when they have done the drive way, and that he has told Rivergum what he needs to do to fix it (rip up part of the driveway and run new cable). He will get back to me, when they approve the work to be done.
11:05am Puratap man turns up to install puratap....yeah someone is there when they say they will be.
11:07am Profile Wardrobes turn up to measure up for drawers in walk in robe, wardrobe for 1st spare room, and cupboard in laundry. She leaves about 12:30pm.
12:28pm Kay rings me to tell me what is happening, and is very happy I finally have hot water. Asks about Cable guy and I tell her what he told me the night before. Phone beeps, have a message while talking to her, get off phone and it is Chris to tell me that Rivergum has approved the work. Give him a call back, and he says he will be out Friday to fix the pipe and I should ring Telstra to book them back in, to connect me after this.
Ask about window screens. Even though they should have been made at the same times as the windows, there is a problem and they won’t be installed for 2 - 4 weeks....RIDICULOUS!!
Decide I’ve had enough, since I have been stuck in the house for 2 and a half days, and run off to Spargo’s at Marion to mooch their free Internode internet. Buy lunch, sit down and work as long as I can until my battery dies!
Rush to Real Estate Agents office first and give them a list of the problems, the owner needs to fix. Tell them I am extremely frustrated and that I am considering legal action. They say they will pass it on, cause they are also frustrated by the owner not doing what he is suppose to be doing.
Facebook has exploded while I’m away. You people need to stop sending me stuff!!! *giggles*
Go to mums when battery dies, have a cup of tea and partly read the paper, come home, walk to Foodland (2 minutes down street walking!) and get some stuff to eat and drink. Fridge is bare....
Get home and sit down to charge battery on laptop so I can go to Spargo’s tomorrow and pay bills and maybe catch up on Facebook a bit.
Rang Telstra...earliest they can come and connect phone, since I know the cable WILL be fixed Friday, is NEXT WEDNESDAY!!!...This means I won’t have internet until maybe Thursday, possible Friday.

Thursday
Well today is my own, not expecting anyone to come by. Obviously I am at Spargo’s again since I am posting this message.

Friday
Only expecting the cable guy, who says he will be at the house around 10am. Am hoping he can also put in an extra telephone point in the spare room for my modem. Telstra guy didn’t want to do it the other day, and I don’t want to have to keep bringing it out into dining area just to use internet.

If you managed to survive reading all that.....GOOD ONYA!!!
If anyone wants me, just send me a message to work Alison.bass@aec.gov.au because I don’t know when I will get back online before I get reconnected next week. I am back at work on Monday (for a well deserved break I think...). Well at a training course from 10 - 2pm, but will check my email and such before and after that.
