I know I don't update a ton, but here's that good old end of the year meme!
1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Lived with a significant other, went to Multnomah falls, led my own classes, performed in a fire show, Nerdgames
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Sort of? I did cut back on my soda consumption, but took up drinking coffee, so I guess that's a net even? I also did kind of revamp my wardrobe a little. Not much, but it means I wasn't wearing sweatshirts *every* day
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not close to me, but a friend from elementary school
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandma died last Wed. She'd been doing poorly for years, so it wasn't a terrible surprise.
5. What countries did you visit?
Canada, again.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Probably the same things as every year: stable finances, more self-confidence. It'd be nice not to be so damn worried about money all the time.
7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 27, November 28th, December 15th, also Thanksgiving
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being an adult when it counted and making hard decisions. Taking up drawing again.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Probably the whole house debacle (long story). Not actually being as proactive as I should have been about applying to stuff.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
A few colds and massive bruising from practicing spinning
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I got a new laptop (the old one died).
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Thomas. Always Thomas. The payout's not great, but he sticks around anyway and has been dealing with my special brand of crazy for a long, long time. Also, the denizens of Oz/the Glory Hole for providing a second home. Definitely Wes and Anna. They are amazing and I love living with them. They should get medals
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Someone who used to be a good friend. Dreamhouse has had a lot of housemate drama of late, but I'm not going to unload that here. It's a long story and just makes me angry to think about.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, bills, dragonboat, food (in that order). Student loans were killer.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I got really excited about a lot of things. Probably Nerdgames/boardgames are the things I threw myself into with the most zeal.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Carry On Wayward Son, Kansas
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? A little sadder and definitely angrier, but that's compartmentalized. Aside from one issue, I've had a pretty good year.
thinner or fatter? A little fatter (again).
richer or poorer? I didn't think it was possible, but poorer. I've got like, $5 in my bank account until the end of the month.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Read more. I don't think I finished more than one or two books. More art. I sort of wish I'd gone out and about more.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Sitting on the couch. Stressing about things I can't control. Letting myself and my friends get pushed around.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I went to my parents for a while, then spent a lovely evening with Thomas & family. Topped it off with a dose of holidays with Roddy's family
21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Gross
22. How many one-night stands?
432
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Supernatural or Avatar or Community
24. Do you dislike anyone now that you didn’t dislike this time last year?
Unfortunately, yes, but I think their behaviour merits it.
25. What was the best book you read?
Considering I only read like, two, I suppose it'd be Smoke and Mirrors, by Neil Gaiman.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Freezepop (thanks, Wes!), Basement Jaxx
27. What did you want and get?
A job that I enjoy!
28. What did you want and not get?
Good pay for my job. =P Seriously though? An amenable agreement to said house thing. Most other stuff I had control of but didn't manage to achieve.
29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Inception, I guess. I couldn't really afford to go to most movies.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had a BBQ thingie that went on for hours. It was pretty okay, though not as well attended as I would have liked. I turned 24.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less laziness on my part would have made a lot more stuff happen.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
The classic t-shirt/jeans/sweatshirt combo, with occasional days of skirts and tights.
33. What kept you sane?
Staying social.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
David Tennant. He's still the prettiest.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I don't even know. I have not been following politics nearly as closely as I follow my science blogs.
36. Who did you miss?
Many people who have moved away.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Josh and Max joined our fold. We'd met previously, but never really hung out a whole lot before.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010?
Get things in writing.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
And you're rushing headlong down the highway
And you're rushing headlong out of control
And you think you're so strong
But there ain't no stopping
There's nothin nothin' nothin' you can do about it
This next one isn't super-exciting. Mostly 'cause I never update anymore. It's a summary of the year by looking at the first line of the first entry of every month.
