What's the big deal, right? Windows has matured so much as an operating system. We linux/unix users are talking out of their collective asses when they say that *nix platforms are more secure.

... RiiiightAnyway, I didn't do my bitching over a bunch of other issues, like the lack of security that Vista had provided. With 0-day exploits, w00t! ( Read more... )

Oh how I wish for Linux. With a passion. I HATE WINBLOWS! But I'm not sure on the quality of screen readers for Linux. Also, can you install Linux on a box that was once Winblows?

Unfortunately I don't know much about the screen reader situation for Linux. I do know that there's Emacspeak, and a push for screen reading utilities on Linux. I can't vouch for Emacspeak, because I know nothing about it really, but it looks interesting.

You can definitely install Linux over an old windows box. In fact, all of my computers came with windows originally installed. Another option is dual-booting, where you have both installed on your computer, but choose which one you want to run on startup. It can be a bit complicated to set up, but some people do that for things like games on Windows.

Currently, I'm hooked on Kubuntu Linux. It's a variant on Ubuntu which uses KDE instead of Gnome. The reason I like Ubuntu as a whole, is that it's fairly slick as Linux goes, and is updated regularly at the moment.

If you ever have any more questions, feel free to hit me up. I'll see if I can provide answers.

Thank you very much! Those links are something I'll definitely look into and appreciate them 100%! Windows has too much spyware and adware and freezes like crazy. That and the security point. But if I've any more questions I'll definitely hit you up.
