A Spooks movie is happening THIS IS NOT A DRILL

Nov 08, 2013 20:59

Yes, it turns out Peter Firth wasn't just trolling us all for kicks (though he probably was a bit), there is an actual, genuine Spooks movie in the works.

What we know so far:

Cut for spoilers just in case anyone's bothered, although it's not even filming until 2014... )

movie, news

Ok, so my totally rational and mature thoughts:

1. The Greater Good! (the greater good). HAVE THE WRITERS NOT WATCHED HOT FUZZ? ffs, I can't take this title seriously!
2. JON SNOW. Amazing. On a serious note, I am pleased about Jennifer Ehle. Sad there's no other existing cast (Dimitri!) but on the other hand, no Calum.
3. Fine, no problems with this
4. Oh. Oh dear. Really? Hm.
5. Oh Harry, you and your protégés. Have you learned nothing?

I will continue to consider all of this AMAZING until proved otherwise. And despite the writers, I am super excited about new canon!

I don't really think Kit is the right fit for this - he's better @ playing mopey "tortured heroes," not an up and coming spy, but his people are trying *really* hard to make him happen outside of Game of Thrones, so I guess I can't fault him for going for this. It may turn out to be unintentionally hilarious, though...we'll see.

If Jennifer has a sizable role, I might check this out at some point, but my overall feeling about this is sorta...meh. I am not a die-hard Spooks fan, though.

Unintentionally hilarious and/or pretty men with epic manpain is pretty much Spooks all over though ;)

At the moment I'm worried it'll look great but be a total mess a la series 9 and 10, seeing as it's the same writers.

Kit may serve up his action scenes with an open mouth, so it might be even more hilarious. He's...okay...on GoT, but he's not the best actor. Since this role won't necessarily require him to show much emotion, it might be ok.

I haven't even seen 9 & 10, so I will take your word for it that the story may be dodgy. ;-D

Haha, you're right there.

Oh, well. They do some very odd things, let's say.

I was being VERY restrained.

I knooooow, why these writers? I'm still stupidly excited, obviously, but UGH why them?

Throwbacks would be good but if Harry's the only existing cast member there won't be much they can do (I would be kind of surprised if that does pan out, not sure they'll be able to resist any cameos).

None of the Spooks writers were ever very good at caring about continuity, sadly - only as long as it suited them.

4. It will be written by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, who wrote most of series 9 and 10

...well, there goes my interest in it. I could have handled the rest, no problem, but I loathe most of series 9 and 10, which is impressive for me as I'm usually the one who loves All the Things.
