LJ has had text ads for a while now; you knew that. I logged out to go take a look and I wouldn't have noticed them at all if I hadn't been looking for them. (in other words, it's not that bad, and it'll never be as bad as myspace, so suck it up, princess ;) )

Door skin, laminated cheepie spruce 2x4 and foam

a BBU is a battery backup unit, it means if the power goes out the hardware raid controller can keep it's cache (a 128 meg stick of pc133 ram) active until the power comes back on and it can complete it's write requests.
it's very sweet
