Everyday? For all of April? I must be mad.

I was watching the latest episode of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution on Hulu this morning. The show continues to tell me things I already know about how badly Americans eat and how badly we feed our youth, but in a way that's genuinely moving. In any case, the commercials were... angering. They were clearly geared at people who are watching this ( Read more... )

Have you also seen Slim-Fast's new campaign slogan? "Who has time to lose weight slowly?"

I'm hardly one to talk about the virtues of losing weight, but when I was originally on Weight Watchers, I was told that losing weight slowly allows the body to adjust proportionately to the changes your loss of weight causes on your system. Lose it too quick and you may end up complicating things.

What plagues me worse is that this ad plays every 5 minutes on Sam's Club's TVs... There are a bunch of things that wear on me at work, but that is easily in my top 5.

I haven't seen it, and that is a terrible slogan.

I don't know about putting stress on your system by dropping weight too fast, but there's lots of information out there about the fact that cutting calories (while maintaining a balanced diet) and getting exercise is the best way to shed pounds and keep them off. Quick fixes just don't work for most people--not for any real length of time, anyway.

I am a BIG fan of adding a packet of vanilla Carnation and some whey powder to my smoothies... then again I am having that with skim or soy milk + fresh fruits.

The Carnation Instant Breakfasts are actually a lot better for you than I'd expected them to be when I looked them up. And I recall them being delicious as well (in fact, I may steal your smoothie idea). It's just the whole instant fix, no need to ever cook anything attitude of these commercials--during this program--that sort of bother me.

Oh, I totally agree. There is definately some irony to it. There is a totally big difference between using a CIB as a source of instant substinence and using it to add vitamins to a filling beverage. I started doing the smoothies in order to get some nutrition and vitamins when I was pregnant and naseous because I couldn't eat food in the morning and it stuck with me because it worked well when I was on WW.

It would be great if Jamie Oliver had agreed to do the program only if he could have veto power over the sponsors.

It was incredibly interesting to read the blog about the school lunches. I think you were the one who posted it on Facebook? I've wanted to catch Jamie Oliver's show and haven't had a lot of television time lately. Glad to hear it's on Hulu when I have a chance ( ... )

Err... stop eating when they're full instead of requiring them to clean their plates. I'm not making much sense this evening. >.

Carnation Instant Breakfast is what they told me to add to Elanor's whole milk....to help her gain weight as she currently is underweight and we're all desperately trying to fatten her up.

Not what I'd give anyone any other time, though.
