In Which Our Heroine Has a Fight with Her Cell Phone Provider.

Last night I activated my new Virgin Mobile phone & paid my monthly fee out of my paypal balance (it's pay as you go, but SO MUCH cheaper than my old Sprint plan). I also added $10 to my cash balance from my bank account, so that I could download games, ringtones, etc. I was having problems connecting, but figured it was just taking everything a ( Read more... )

Well, I signed up for a plan. They recommend you carry a cash balance so you don't have to worry too much if you go over your minutes, but I've paid for a full month of service in advance. So hopefully that won't be an issue. Hopefully.

I hate dealing with cell phone companies in general, but they are almost necessary now a days. ):

I don't think they're any worse than any other big, theoretically-service-oriented companies. And I stopped using a land line something like eight years ago. So... Yeah.

Jess and I talk about the "cheap, fast and good" triumverate, and how you can never get more than two of those things at once. If it's fast and good, it's probably not cheap. If it's cheap and fast, it's probably not good. And if it's good and cheap, it's not fast. I'm betting that your new phone service fits that last one. I hope they find the payment, no matter how long it takes!

And sadly right now "cheap" has got to be one of the two I look for. This service still gives me unlimited data and texting and such, and is costing me less than half what I was paying with Sprint. That said, this is a terrible beginning, I'm hearing nothing good about them from others, and I'm already looking forward to a level of financial freedom that will allow "cheap" to slide back down the priority list.

we've had nothing but problems with Virgin Mobile (wait till you try to cancel the account - they'll hit your account for the automatic payment for MONTHS later, even after calling talking to real person, and being assured that it had been canceled)

Unfortunately they're the cheapest service I could find and that's my priority right now. I didn't sign up for automated payments, so hopefully I won't have that particular issue. But thanks for the heads up about the kind of company this is.

No problem!

we're going to change over to SmartTalk - pretty much for the same reason ;-)
we only need talk & text and SmartTalk has them both unlimited for $30 a month. (now we just need to buy the phones :P)
