Does anybody else feel like with the passage of time, all you acomplish is shutting yourself out of more and more opportunities?

I still want to be an astronaut.

one time in a restaraunt i overheard someone discussing the fact that before the age of 5 or so, everyone claims that they're going to be president, or an astronaut, or a pro-wrestler, etc., but then at some point in their life they resign to making strides toward something more realistic. He went on to say that there are also those people that you meet in college that still say "i'm going to be president" or "i'm going to be an astronaut", and they're the ones that remind you of the true expanse of the realm of possibility and make you feel like you're settling for something mediocre, which is probably true.

yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing i'm talking about. it's really depressing that once you figure out exactly how much shit you have to go through to become these things, almost everybody gives up.

that's because it's the truth

there's probably around 5 million people your age in the united states, and out of all of them, only a maximum of 5 actually have a chance of being president. in reality though, none of them will.
same thing with being an astronaut. and once your in college, the more you deviate from astrophysics or poliical science, the less likely you are to be those things.
the younger you are, the more control you have over your life, it's when you become older that you become locked into certain choices and doors begin to close behind you.

i know it's true - i'm just complaining about it. it won't hit you full force until you're in college. it's really sort of depressing for someone like me who changes their mind about what they want to do nearly every day. i'm just afraid that i'll end up doing the wrong thing with my life. for the firs time, the decisions i'm making are finally starting to have consequences.
