Touching nerves at the NYT

Nov 20, 2007 17:08

Today, the New York Times congratulated itself on its new skyscraper in midtown Manhattan.

My comments were moderated out of the comment thread. The NYT says that comments "generally will be posted if they are on-topic and not abusive." I don't think I was off-topic, so I must assume I was "abusive."

Considering that it was built on land that was forcibly acquired from its previous owners, it's appropriate that Mr. Ouroussoff finds the building's architectural heritage to be rooted in 1950s Modernism. "Moral clarity" and "objective truth" at the NYT remain things to be longed for, but the paper's caretakers should be cheered by the likelihood that somewhere, Robert Moses is nodding his head approvingly.

The NYT was the only major publication in the country to applaud the Kelo v. New London decision in 2005, and was popularly and rightfully pilloried for that position. Was I "abusive," or did I touch an editorial sore spot? You tell me.
