Young R.'s a fortunate child, to have a mother who explains things to him!

As for Erma Bombeck, I am reminded of the anecdote about Gershwin, who went to Schoenberg when he was young and asked him to teach him, and Schoenberg said, "Why should I make you a bad Schoenberg when you are already a first-rate Gershwin?"

I seriously have only the vaguest notions of who Erma Bombeck is, and the rest of the time mix her up with Hints From Heloise. Meanwhile, my mom is like "Why don't you turn your Facebook status updates into a book?"

I think she is maybe kind of very ambitious for me.

From my understanding, Erma Bombeck was like an earlier, female Dave Barry. (I know of her, but I've never actually read any of her stuff.)

I think I remember reading somewhere that narrating things to babies like that is very good for them, so that's good! :-)

As long as I don't go into my "narrating my life like I'm being interviewed for a lifestyle magazine" thing, I'm fine. When I hit that point...

...well, at least it's not People.
