As my learned friend will know, there's been a change in the way government and politics are conducted in this country; spin and hype are out, as are the tendencies of the State to strive for all encompassing power and onmipresent surveillance..

We shall have to see how this shows up in actual policy. But the strategy of treating terrorists not as if they do have a point to make but just as common criminals is a sound one.
