Holiday report - Part 2 Diving! (PADI: Go places, do people, catch things)

Mar 26, 2008 13:56

We had arrived in Sharm reasonably late in the evening. After settling in and having a roof top dinner where jonnytuna made it clear that he required at least three gallons of tahina just for himself, we drank beer on the roof terrace and listened to tales of diving horror and glee until fairly late. As was to become normal, we dragged ourselves out of bed ( Read more... )

Ears are my fear too. It was really quite painful at time but I did manage to get down to 18 metres in the end so I must be doing something right! You are right about the swimming thing: not that important when you have all the kit.

Excellent write up, although no mention of the Coloured Canyon or peanut wars!
It was a great trip and I'm very glad that everyone got on and the whole group socialised together every night.
I have to be honest, Stoney Cove is a cold cold place, good only for learning dive skills. Even in the peak of summer it only gets up to about 16 degrees. When I dived there I had more rubber on than most of the punters at TG.
I'm really looking forwards to our next dive trip in June. We should make Sharm an annual event though. You can't complain at £300 for travel and accomodation.

I need to timetable in snowboarding each year as well, so I vote for anual autumn diving!

I need a raise! :)

Hell yeah- October is also very cheap and off season for the British (the Egyptians are most amused that the Brits mostly come over in the heat of summer).
The advatage of October over March is that the sea temperature is 26 rather than 22 degrees. Much more pleasant, and easier bouyancy.

I dealt with the peanut wars briefly in my first review but I intend to go on and write up the coloured canyons and other parts of the holiday. I'm not finished yet! It was a brilliant holiday and everyone did get on really well! Can't wait to go again!

I loved that swim through/cave. It totally rocked. Swimming out and down from the cave... I began to realise why we had learned to scuba dive.

How are the ears now? Still a bit of pain?
