Sometimes, ideology is such a drag. How is it that the most powerful nation is ruled by people who are so genuinely naive as to believe that some nations are good and others evil? Surely, they must realise that nations will endeavour to act in their own self-interest? Or do the hawks in the US government really think that the Iranians are like ( Read more... )

Lame that your trial didn't go ahead if you did a lot of prep for it.

In other news, are you coming to Casino Royale next week?

If I hadn't done the prep, it would have gone ahead and I would have looked foolish!

Yes. I think I might need to sort myself out with an outfit. My DJ is looking haggard and there are some other events for which I require one so it might be time to splash out.

But surely a battered DJ is even more Bond than a pristine one?

I think the sad fact is that a lot of people in the US government do think the Iranians are like Cobra from G.I. Joe.

Whereas people in the government over here are much more globally aware, and realise that the Iranians are more like Tom Baker in Sinbad, and are waiting for them to unleash their flying monkey things on us.

Hahah. Sadly not seen Sinbad, but amusing nonetheless.

Imagine the Ayatollah Khomeni played by Tom Baker in full-on scenery chewing mode...

Like that, but more so.

Strange you should mention a melee in a bowling alley, because that is what I saw on Wednesday Night.

Maybe bowling alleys are just fraught with potential for violence, they way pool halls used to be.

I think the clientele of such places appears to contain a large proportion of people with poor thinking skills and no qualms about casual violence. It's a pity, as I find bowling quite fun but also don't want to bump into people that I have prosecuted for offences of violence.

I reckon you would have been okay here.

The bowling alley in question was in the basement of the Tavistock Hotel in Bloomsbury, and as such is frequented by UCL students (I got talking to a couple of MA students from America once the dust settled). Probably quite different to bowling lanes in Leeds Leicester.

The fight was between a bunch of Emo kids. I have no idea what started it, but I suspect someone made a cutting remark about someone else's Toni&Guy haircut or skin-tight jeans. These kids are so sensitive. The Emo kids were there for a secret show by some American band that I had been sent to cover.

Still, you do make a fair point about not wanting to bump into defendants. I remember a friend of mine who was with the CPS at Highbury told me a story about prosecuting an ABH and then seeing the defendant some time later in her train carriage (her being all of five foot four and with rather striking features).

Dag nebbit, there is supposed to be a strike through Leeds.

Jack's attempt at HTML humour fails.
