I just talke to Sally on the phone from the hospital - she must be improving because she wants her personal game system! She seems chipper and is asking for her cell phone and cane. I don't know how soon she'll be on her feet, but she'll be in the hospital for almost a week. That's a very long time these days

Some of us (at least me) have missed something. What happened?

She had lesions on both kidneys and the surgeon was hoping to spare part of each, but not certain that he could. After the surgery, he told me that he was able to save 2/3 of one of them and 1/2 of the other. So the results were very good. Everything seems to be in good working order, and I assume we will learn more in time. The filk family gathered at the hospital and visited with her briefly after the surgery - long enough to lend her a cell phone so she could call her Mum in England. This all happened very suddenly - they found the problem sort of accidentally after she had her gall bladder out. She had been feeling great and it was pretty surprising to all of us.
No one expected her to get into OR so quickly!
And thank goodness for our health care system - Sally's only recently returned to work after going back to school and a period of unemployment.
Keep your fingers crossed for her full and quick recovery.
