Through some twist of events I ended up downtown watching the fireworks alone. That has never happened before. Not sure how to describe it to people who haven't had kids for so long that they can't remember not having them

Better to get the accidental hug than the snub. I will never forget being at a bar when a guy yelled out "hey" and waved, I looked around (who? me) and back at him and he nodded as if to say "ya- you" and started at me with his arms out for a hug. Now I am thinking it MUST be someone I know and can't place so I will just go with it and hug him so it won't be awkward for him and once we start talking I will recall who he is. I walked forward and put my arms out but just as we got close enough and my arms started to slip up to go around him, he gave me the cockeyed look like I was the crazy one and a girl stepped up from behind me and hugged him. So I gave a stranger a half hug who didn't even see me until I was caught in the real hug with the person intended and then he pulled back and looked at me as if I had cooties. I felt like such an idiot that it STILL makes my stomach lurch every time I think of it to this day.
