Haha - according to the Sharpe books (and this is probably true, although not mentioned on his wikipedia page), his troops called him 'Nosey' because he had such a big nose.
I suppose Austen was writing contemporaneously to the Napoleonic wars, but it's probably stretching it a bit. Also, Wentworth was a Navy man - they should have used a portrait of Nelson!

It doesn't half bother me when they stick portraits of real people on the covers of fiction books to make them look "authentic".
