For the first two years of college, I missed having a cat badly but Nick and I were in living situations that didn't allow for that. I got N to agree to adopt a cat when we moved back to Texas from Minnesota, to an apartment complex that permitted it. I sympathize. And, yes, cost is a factor, but I think it is a rational one. It doesn't make your choice or your grieving any easier, though.
