So I've been interviewing recently and I've been told that I should send thank you notes to my interviewers. My usual default is to wait a week after a job interview and then send a follow up. But I've heard everything now from that's correct to send a hand-written thank you card to their address. What to other people think is appropriate ( Read more... )

Regarding thank-you notes, I really think it depends on the formality of the setting. Sending a handwritten note if you were interviewed by a committee at a giant firm might seem a little twee; sending a formal letter to the lady who interviewed you to be part of her six-person handpicked team might be a bit much.

In this case, though, I wouldn't send a letter until after the Monday interview. Because really the point of the letter is to remind them of you and keep your foot in the door, and you've already got that at the moment.

The Herald thing, BTW, is pretty redonkulous. Maybe if you were already desperate to eat there, it'd be nice to have someone willing to partially defray your costs, but "Go buy yourself a meal and then write about it for us"? Man, journalism is a cheap date these days.
