Beard works with a ZZ Top type of costume.... you could always play the groupie. :) Would Dax put up with a fake beard for a while? :)

For Dax, go all pants/legwarmers, a colored onsie that matches his hair, and a "leather" vest (I'm not sure how good you are with sewing pleather/vinyl, but it's really not too bad for a costume as long as you keep in mind that you won't be able to take out any seams). If he'll put up with hair coloring, then definitely, that would be super cute!

I really like the idea of ZZ Top for hubby, here are some photo references.

For you, I have this idea of a cut up band shirt over a longer sleeved black and [color] striped shirt. Something like this maybe, or with ties up the side? Look at thrift stores for black shirts with bright, "punky" designs (whatever that means to you!) and cut 'em up. Check out t_shirt_surgery, especially their no-sew section (for the look I'm thinking of, not because you can't sew!), and see what you can find. Ooh, I can totally see you wearing something like this one. Pair with black pants/boots. Do big 80s hair, maybe put some color in to match Dax.

I have to say, I'm loving the punk rocker theme!! Its so far departed from the you I know, it just seems really fun! I can't wait to see what you come up with!! (especially like the father/son faux hawk & beard idea with you as a groupie haha)
