Spruce help needed.
Someone gave me a spruce tree in a pot. When I went to plant it today, I saw that there were tiny mites in a damp area of the trunk, about third way up where branches branch off the tree. I removed the tree from the pot and found this tiny greenish webbing around the roots-- mostly around the top sides. (The picture shows everything a little lighter than it really is.) I cut in at the bottom and found that this didn't seem to be deep inside. (I only cut in about an inch. The tree lost some branches even before I got it. what should I do? The tree is about 3 ft tall (including pot).
Also, in general, when you plant a tree like this, how much do you cut in and spread out the roots before you plant it?
Thanks.
