Wellspring Arms, Saturday Evening

May 02, 2009 21:47

There was still a lot of paperwork to catch up on after he'd been a lemming for several days. So Cable was doing just that - the island had remained relatively peaceful, so there wasn't that much to catch up on. Still, there were defenses to check, payrolls to scrutinize, and radio to catch up on ( Read more... )

Jamie really didn't have a good reason to be at Wellspring. Except maybe to escape the wrath of a certain principal.

Actually that was probably a pretty good reason.

"Ah! Cable," Jamie said coming in through the door. "What a surprise to find you here."

Yes. Idle talk will save him.

"Madrox," Cable said, in a tone of voice that implied that idle talk really wouldn't save him.

But before Cable could get up to scoop Jan up and see what the hell he was here for, the girl had ran at the man already. Or waddled. As fast as her legs could. "JAM!"

This wasn't because she knew Jamie's name, mind. She just liked jam.

"Oh look. It's either the savior or the person who will lead our race to doom," Jamie said kneeling down. "How's that whole daddy thing coming along?"

Cable? Cable was coming up at rapid speed, hovering. It was possible he was feeling a little more protective after turning into a lemming. Animal transformations did that to you. "Fine," he said, "What do you want?"

He was going to pick Jan up telekinetically, at this rate.

"Jam," Jan informed him. "Deahd."

"Just thought I'd drop by and let you know I'm leaving," he said offering a finger to Jan and hoping that the "Deahd" thing wasn't a threat. "I'm heading out on Monday to another dimension."

Jan had just spent too much time with Deahd lately. She snagged the finger like it was a sausage and she owned it.

"Any dimension I might have heard of?" Cable inquired, keeping his eagle eyes on the both of them.

"The one Temari is-"

Jamie stopped as... something like an electrical current jolted through his arm and up to his head. He pulled his finger away from Jan and slapped his head out of reflex letting out a grunt of surprise.

"What the hell was that?"

Yeah, Cable was snagging Jan up telekinetically at that point, grabbing her and holding her close. "What did you do?" he demanded. Oh, look, his fingers were twitching by his sidearm.

"I didn't do anything!" Jamie exclaimed as he looked up at Cable. "I just touched her and... oh man. My face feels like it was just boiled."

Of course the reason for that might now be apparent on Jamie's face.

"Madrox," he said, slowly. His eyes had landed on Jamie's brow.

Jan made inquisitive noises, but Cable was making very sure she wasn't going anywhere.

"Cable..." Jamie said rubbing his temple. "What are you looking at?"

"You might want to find a mirror."

It was just another in a long line of miracles to put to Jan's resume. His frown turned thoughtful.

"You have one?" Jamie asked as he stood up and then caught his reflection in the window. "... Okay. What.. How?"

"Hm."

That was helpful, Cable. He was still watching Jamie carefully.

Maybe it was the time energy discrepancy; or whatever powers were locked up in her body, bubbling back up to the surface.

"I've touched her before," Jamie said turning to look at Cable. "I mean... why now?"

"Streaking through graduation might have had something to do with it."

Cable had clearly been spending too much time with Deadpool.

He tilted his head. "It could be something residual from the island." He didn't bother to ask Jamie if he'd left the island to do anything lately; he'd have found out.
