When I was in the US, I had to open a bank account so that my company could deposit my allowance there. I was gonna spend a month in Miramar, Florida (directly above Miami) and a month in Salt Lake City, Utah so it was important that I choose a bank that had branches in both locations.

I did my research on the internet. I googled the banks I knew

Technically, the bank hasn't failed. The bank's still alive -- they were just bought by another company (JPMorgan Chase). Parang nangyari sa PCI Bank na binili ng Equitable.
