For one day this weekend, my whole immediate family was together.  My brothers both came home to visit mom, but their schedules only allowed a short overlap.  It was good for Mom to have everyone together, and it was also good for everyone else to see each other - Dad, me, my 2 brothers, and my sister-in-law, who has really become a full part of ( Read more... )

It is wonderful and rare to have such closeness in a family anymore. That's really what it's all about when it comes down to it I think...

I don't quite know where it happened (well, I can come up with some theories if I analyze it I guess) but my three kids really dislike one another. They have no bonding with one another at all...each does with me...but not with each other.

My two younger brothers were sometimes outright hostile toward each other growing up, and my youngest brother was pretty aloof for a period of several years during and after college. In the last couple of years, though, most of that has gone away, especially in the last few months with mom being sick.
