[Background]
Rika was born in Hinamizawa and into the Furude family. From the moment of her birth she was able to see the village deity, Oyashiro, or Hanyuu. Then, when she was very young, something that the villagers called a curse fell upon the village-people were dying on the day of the Watanagashi festival. One year, the deaths happened to be those of her parents. This led to Rika becoming the head of the Furude family and the shrine maiden. It was only a few short years until Rika herself was murdered. However, Hanyuu would not be able to live with that. So, she rewound time so that Rika would be alive again and would hopefully be able to live out her life.
That didn’t end up being the case. For one hundred years, Rika lived again and again only to see her friends kill each other because of the Hinamizawa Syndrome. During or shortly after the terror between her friends, Rika’s own death would occur. Rika lived through many different events repeatedly to the point where she could tell the future of the Hinamizawa she had been placed in. This led to Rika’s boredom with her life, as she gave up on trying to change her fate.
Then, she found a world where things were different-Keiichi was able to save Rena from the symptoms of Hinamizawa Syndrome; she had been cured. However, this didn’t change the fact that Rika would soon meet her death once again. The next world was also different. This time, everyone seemed to have memories of the past worlds and their own wrongdoings-at that moment, Rika knew that she could change things this time. However, it wasn’t until she was convinced by her friend Keiichi that Rika fully believed that she could change fate. Time and time again they were able to change things that had gone wrong in other worlds and avoid the tragedies that had fallen upon them for many years previous.
They fought fate until their last moments, when everyone began to die one by one at the hands of Takano and the Yamainu. Before Rika could even do anything, she and her friends had been caught. Determined to remember that her killer was Takano, Rika requested to remain awake as she was killed so as to engrave the memory into her mind. With the support of her friends, Rika was able to die full of hope. That was when Rika awoke in Somarium. Her stay felt brief, and before she knew it, she was home.
Rika awoke in another Hinamizawa, vaguely remembering another world named Somarium. She used her newfound hope to fuel her determination in finally finding her own happy ending. She and her friends had come up with a great plan-to fake her death. If they did that, no one would try to kill her. However, after coming up with the plan, Rika found herself back in Somarium.
[Personality]
Rika presents herself as friendly and cute, and often uses silly phrases that have no meaning or demonstrate sound effects. Although she may often act oblivious, it is quite obvious that Rika is very intelligent and perceptive of the events going on around her. She often likes to pat others on the head, whether it is as a friendly gesture or to comfort. Rika presents herself as very kind and even sly at times.
However, as innocent as Rika seems, she often hides the truth from those around her so as not to frighten her friends, and for fear that no one will believe her. Due to the continuous time loops, Rika’s mind has matured while her body has not. However, she does not often present this side of herself because she does not want to worry other people. She will be her true self when the situation warrants it though.
Throughout the years, Rika lost hope of ever being able to create a world that would finally be able to continue on in peace; one where she would survive. For hundreds of years, Rika has repeated her life over and over again, hoping that things would change. After so many years, Rika began to lose hope, just idly watching as the ones she loved around her began to go insane, thinking that there was nothing that she could do.
However, Keiichi is able to change the perception that her efforts are worthless by convincing her that fate can be changed just by one willing it to, and he demonstrates his belief time and time again. This completely changed Rika’s attitude and gave her hope, and it strengthened her belief in herself and her friends even until her death. This hope stays with her through the next Hinamizawa, where she has the motivation to fight through her dismal fate.
Rika is quite intelligent, although she does not often show it. However, she does let on that she knows more than she should about many things, which often confuses those around her. Many people are drawn to Rika, as she is very friendly and willing to offer her opinion and go out of her way to help others when they are suffering. Even though Rika may be young and quite small, she has a presence that others acknowledge, and those around her respect her greatly.
However, Rika is not very strong and she is not able to defend herself. This requires her to rely on other’s strength, much to her disdain. Rika’s major flaw is her cynicism, which has led her to lose all hope towards a happy future for herself and her friends. She rarely shows her cynical side, but that trait always exists within her and threatens her happiness.
Although Rika trusts her friends and those around her, she does not believe that they have any faith in her, which leads her to think that her friends would not believe the truth when she tells them and this has led to many failures in the past. Rika’s greatest fear is that she will lose those that she loves the most, and that she will fail in protecting them in the end.
[Abilities]
Rika, with the help of Hanyuu, is able to travel to another Hinamizawa after her death. She is also the only one able to see Hanyuu, as she is a deity. Since Rika has no real powers they would not be affected in Somarium.
Rika is also the Queen Carrier of the Hinamizawa Syndrome, which means that her presence is able to repress the symptoms of Hinamizawa Syndrome. This ability will not be affected in Somarium, but it is only effective towards people from Hinamizawa.
[Other important stuff]
Rika often likes to say phrases like “Nipaa” and “Mii”, which have no real meaning to them. She also likes to articulate sound effects, such as “clap, clap, clap” while she’s clapping. Also, Rika’s voice is usually high-pitched and girlish, but when she is being serious her voice becomes deeper and more adult like.
[Sample post]
[First Person]
What were you doing before now? I was the shrine maiden for Oyashiro in my village. I would perform the ceremony during the Watanagashi festival. I was also the head of the Furude house.
If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why? I would not. I believe that I would be capable of saving my own soul and by doing that I would not have to risk losing something dear to me.
Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could? Yes! I believe that we must fight in order to change things or to have things go in our own favor. We must all fight on!
You are on the verge of death. You know there is no way to survive and there's no coming back. Who is the last person you think of other than your killer? i> I don’t think of just one person last. I think of all of my friends, and everything that they have done for me. I know that they would have tried their hardest to save me from my death and I would spend my last moments thanking them for their courage.
Murder. What is your opinion? Murder can destroy everything around it. Even those who are not directly affected will still be changed by it. Murder is able to tear apart entire villages.
Do you prefer adventure or the peaceful life? I prefer to have a peaceful life. There are no worries and it is still possible to find adventure within it. You just have to look hard enough, or you can create your own adventures!
[Third Person]
Rika wasn’t exactly sure how she had gotten to be in one of the forests of the floating mountain. She could vaguely recall the trek there, but the entire adventure had seemed to have blended together the moment she arrived in the forest. She had finally reached her destination, and the journey there had been worth it. It was a beautiful place and Rika was in awe. After all, there weren’t many places she had been that had happened to be this beautiful.
Not only was it beautiful, but it also reminded Rika of the forests surrounding Hinamizawa. She could recall all those hours of running through the trees and taking in all of her surroundings, and she hoped to do that here. So, she set about exploring the new territory. She spotted a group of small flowers growing at the base of a tree and was instantly drawn to them. Picking it up, she noticed the bright color of the petals and the sweet smell that emanated from it. Rika smiled softly to herself as she held the flower close to her and moved on.
It had only been a few minutes of walking before a small bird had found its way towards Rika. Momentarily surprised, Rika drew back a little. However, the bird was determined to greet her. Realizing this, Rika held out her hand and the bird perched itself comfortably on her extended fingers. Rika couldn’t help but smile to herself again. This place reminded her of all the peaceful moments she had in Hinamizawa; the sweet smell, the nature, and the atmosphere of serene solitude. If she couldn’t go back to Hinamizawa anytime soon, she would be happy to continue living here if it meant that there were more places like this.
