Springtime Gen 2006 sign-ups
Welcome to springtime_gen, a Harry Potter genfic exchange community.
First, what is genfic? Gen isn't the same as a G rating! Gen means a story/artwork that doesn't focus on pairings, at least not in a romantic or sexual way. Everything else is game - angst, drama, humour, darkfic, character study, action/adventure, you name it.
The comm works the same way as all those great smut exchange comms - just without smut ;-)
Sign up with a list of your favourite characters, genres, and/or scenarios. You'll get your assignment to make an anonymous gift for someone else, and you'll receive one from an anonymous author or artist.

Please read the rules before signing up:
1. There is no age limit for participants. However, every participant must state if they are of age to read R or NC-17 rated material. If you're a minor, the creator of your gift will be asked to rate your gift accordingly. (Also, please don't write anything for your recipient that you wouldn't be allowed to read yourself, okay?)
2. If your recipient is of age (and you are too), all ratings are allowed, whether it's for language, violence or anything else. Please make sure to rate your fic or artwork correctly!
3. All fics must be at least 1000 words long. There's no upper limit as to length.
4. Fics must be spellchecked and should be beta-read. The moderator reserves the right to return your fic to you if it does not meet these requirements.
5. Remember, it's supposed to be a secret exchange. Please don't post your gift elsewhere on the net or on your journal. Don't write a fic that's related to another story you've written. Identities will be revealed at the beginning of May - after that, feel free to post your fic wherever you like (it would be nice if you could mention that it was written for this comm).
6. To maintain everyone's anonymity, you can't post to this community yourself. All fics and art will be posted by the moderator.
Completed art should be emailed as an attachment to springtime_gen@yahoo.com. Please include the header below in your email.
When you've finished your fic, send it in a Word file to springtime_gen@yahoo.com. Please include html tags for any special formatting (italic, bold, etc.), and turn off smart quotes (go to the Tools menu, choose the Auto Correct option, click on the Auto Format As You Type tab: in the section called "Replace as you type", clear the checkbox that says "Straight quotes with smart quotes".)

7. If you won't be able to create a gift for whatever reason, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can find a backup writer or artist for your recipient!

Please make sure to specify at least 3 different characters, because it will make it easier for your benefactor to create something for you. If you ask for specific scenarios, please give the creator of your gift some room to manoeuvre - a very limiting request can be frustrating. If you want to ask your recipient a question about their request, send me an email to springtime_gen@yahoo.com, and I will contact them for you so that anonymity is maintained.

The deadline for submitting your finished fic or art is March 15th (insert Caesar joke of your choice here...). The gifts will be posted throughout the month of April. The identity of all authors and artists who participated will be revealed at the beginning of May.
