aww I'm so sorry to hear about (I mean... aBOOT... hehe) Sam! You poor things! I got the other photo from when you were driving back today too - yeesh! Glad to know you're safe and sound, despite being bitterly cold.

Hey, if you're going to make fun of me for stereotypes I don't say, I'm going to tell people you say "zed" instead of "zee"... but of course anyone around here knows that's the proper way to say it... so it's kind of pointless. :p

I was lucky I wasn't any later driving back, because the roads were deteriorating rapidly. There was some icy slush on a bridge that caused a moment of terror, but other than that, not too much had accumulated. This morning... there's about 8 inches outside from what I can see from my window! And what does the Weather Network article I just read say? "It's all thanks to an intense weather system pushing in from the United States." Darn you, giving us your bad weather!!!

poor Sam, but don't beat yourself up too much about it. he survived. you can't control the weather. otherwise you'll be too paranoid to ever leave home again. net time you'll know to ask someone to check on the babies

Someone WAS lined up to check on him, but she did a morning check and this happened in the afternoon. Thing is, the pasture he's in only has an L-shaped shelter with no roof, so he couldn't completely get out of the weather. Poor thing was standing up against it, but because it was around 0C, the snow was just melting on him. When it's cold and snowing, the crystals act as an insulator. This has been some very strange weather!

it looks like one of those things that couldn't have been helped, and you were there to make it good.

*offers Sam a treat*

Wow welcome home eh?!! I heard you guys - starting from strathmore (my friend said) right down to you and the Hat - got a good deal of a storm!! All we really got was a crazy storm on thursday (with THUNDER and a BLIZZARD - who knew it could thunder/lightning and snow??) but nice other then the crazy wind since then. See you just need to move a few hours north and then you get better weather lol !!! It's crazy how much our weather changes, whats wrong with us??

Poor Sam!! I hate when you see the shivering like that when its so wet and cold!! haha this is why you buy land and build a little barn that is heated and has a few stalls so on crapy days like that you can bring them in and keep them happy lol, oh to dream :) Nice that you got to at least go and see him and make him feel better :)

Glad you had a good trip, and made it home safe and sound :D

Alberta's weather is nuts! When it was so nice a couple weeks ago, I was saying to my dad that we shouldn't get too comfortable because we were bound to be hit with one more dump of snow at least... and yeah, this one was a doozy!

Today was sunny down here but only 6C. Meanwhile, the Okanangan is at 21C and no wind, as usual! I want it warmer and no wind, so I am going to stay on track with my plan to move west, not north! :p

Sam's paddock only has an L-shaped shelter, so he couldn't get right out of the snow. There is a heated barn there and a spare stall if I wanted it, but after he was dried off and blanketed, he was a happy camper again. :)
