We passed our last test

So, I got called this morning to let me know that I passed the glucose screening (yay!), but that my iron is low (boo!). She recommended that I eat more iron-rich foods and eat a bowl of Total cereal every day. (I didn't get numbers for how low or anything, but I may have Craig call back to find out a little more. I'm not beat all the time or ( Read more... )

The problem is you don't iron Craig's shirts often enough.

Thanks! I was hoping I'd pass. :)

I've definitely been having milk with my cereal, but I have been reducing the amount lately so as not to be wasteful. Maybe that plus the orange juice will be enough. I could also take my vitamins with the juice before I shower and eat instead of after, if it'll give it a head start on absorbing.
I don't eat beef more than one or twice a week these days, so that's simple to increase, too. Craig's more of a chicken guy, so that's the main staple normally. We'll just shift over a bit for a few more months. :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a reason you can't just take iron pills? Seems like it would be easier.

My guess is that I'm not super-low on iron, and she feels it's simple to address the small deficiency by just shifting my eating habits slightly. I understand that iron supplements can have side effects that are less fun (which I've managed to avoid so far), so I'm more than happy to try it this way instead.

Doesn't milk interfere with the absorption of iron? I thought I remembered something about that. Have a steak every couple of days and call it done! :)

That's the kind of diet plan I can get behind. :)
