For those who haven't tripped across it yet, radio station 97.5 has switched to Christmas music already much to my joy and delight. Listening to the music that the local stations play for Christmas always makes me happy, so I was glad we tripped across it last weekend. :) Some of the songs aren't my favorite, but I usually sing along to just

My mom "ruined" Christmas music by playing it non-stop the day after Thanksgiving. It got worse when we built a new house and installed an intercom system. See, she'd play the same 8-10 records (yes, records), and the first thing she did when we moved to the new house was make tapes to go into the intercom system. I could hack the Johnny Mathis albums, it was the half-dozen glee club/choir albums that tried to get super cute with stuff with their good, clean late-50s, early-60s gee-willikers kind of fun.
Mannheim Steamroller, then, was a gift from whatever gods you want to pray to, and I was so glad when my mom discovered those tapes. I can almost listen to other stuff again, but I'd rather listen to Christmas music on my own terms, which usually means the 3 Mannheim Steamroller ( ... )

I also noticed that if I wait until after Thanksgiving to get going with shopping, then I tend to buy more stuff to just check someone off my list. If I plan and browse before Thanksgiving, I generally can come up with more meaningful gifts.
I like Thanksgiving and everything but I think I read that the average Thanksgiving dinner costs $10 (at least a couple of years ago). That hardly gets retailers anything. I can totally understand their need to push the envelope when it comes to Christmas, especially during these hard economic times with businesses going under and such.
I love the music, too. If I can turn on normal music and only hear Christmas music when I want to, then I'm perfectly fine with it playing.
