Withdrawl is a common (& usually, counter-productive) impulse amongst people suffering from depression. I know I've often had to fight against the urge that makes me want to turn away from my support network when I need them the most.
The reasons are many, but it is proven best to be open with your friends, and let them know what they're getting into, and how you're feeling. That way, you don't feel like you're forcing them to put up with something, and they know that you are having problems that are unlikely to pass on easily.
