I am seriously irritated at how surprised everyone is being over Iowa doing this and the fact that Iowa's senate and house are acting this way. This isn't that big a shock. They've been moving this way for years and Gronstal is one of the toughest guys in Iowa, he's also the most powerful thanks to the Iowa Constitution. He said Friday he supported the courts and his counterpart in the house said the same as did the Governor. Gronstal just makes the most photogenic point but he's not alone.

They've been talking this way for a long time too. Iowa is an insular, surly, and rural state. They hate outside interference and they make that clear. It also has some of the best public schools in the country, a huge graduation rate and move to college and it funds support to the arts and museums more then many of its neighbors. I'm just saying this is a very progressive state. It is culturally like Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin and has a lot less to do with Kansas an Nebraska.
