It's time for that weekly update. All is well is pregnant land. I always assumed it would take longer for chubbier girls to show but boy was I wrong. See, what happens is, once the uterus grows past the pubic bone, it pushes up that lower tummy fat making for one big belly. I am really curious where that fat will go as the uterus gets even bigger. "We will exclusively breastfeed this child until he or she starts kindergarten."

Hahaha. This made me laugh. This post could have been written by me! I feel the exact same way about my belly, maternity pants and being broke!

Do you remember how broke Dave and I were before Trixie was born? Broke broke. And yet, I don't think we bought one single baby item -- excpet for maybe a middle-of-the-night pacifier -- until she was, I don't know, maybe a year old. Even now, aside from furniture, probably 75% of the stuff in her room came from relatives. Don't sweat it.

yeah, half our nursery has already been donated and things keep pouring in- the bonus of working with infants and toddlers! I more afraid of the years to come than the infancy period and it would be really nice if we could have a savings account again.

Have you been reading Cookie?

Seriously, if anything, kids get cheaper as they get older. They don't grow out of clothes and/or develop beyond their toys every five minutes. Plus, once you're beyond the oh sweet jesus how I pray for sleep stage, you can plan ahead more, buy clothes for next summer when you find them on sale now, etc. If Dave and I could manage to put away $10k to move back here to NYC, you can definitely do it too.

oooh, a new read! I haven't seen that mag in stores. Is a subscription recommended?

and I guess I assume since everyone gives you baby clothes and gear (and with planning to breastfeed and cloth diaper) that the baby years will be cheaper. One HUGE thing I have to remember is that once the kid starts school, we'll be saving $600/mos in childcare costs. Since we are a non-profit center, I still have to pay tuition. The plus side is I will be earning money while getting to be with the baby all day. The $600 still hurts though.

As you said in reply to one of my previous posts... Can I just copy and paste this? :-)

I am SHOCKED by how large I am already. My belly has bulged out by several inches over the past three days. Not kidding! We'll have to compare notes on the belly fat as things progress. Me, I'd rather that it sit on top of the baby belly and not turn into massive lovehandles. :-/

I am counting on friends and family members to supply a lot of clothes and toys. It's going to be a tight budget.

Totally hit up garage sales - it sounds weird, but I always find TONS of new/unopened baby stuff for pennies.
Plus, if you need anything in particular, I've got a ton of well-cared for onesies and blankets and such...just say the word! :)
