Okay so trying to flow a little bit with the whole jantes/largom sort of thing- not too much, not to little-  I am trying to get rid of things we really don't need.  Like coffee cups we don't use but I hope to use someday if I ever have a bunch of people over.  but then I think- when will that be?  I mean I don't have enough people over at any one ( Read more... )

Personally, I see no reason whatsoever why you can't just invite people over for beer. Maybe during the summer, then you can hang out on the porch -- don't even have to fret about the house -- and share beer. Phooey on adulthood and its expectations about how we're supposed to socialize.

But I do know what you mean about going through things we hold onto for "when we finally . . ." I'm slowly doing some of the same. Got rid of the worst wedding present ever, for example.

I don't know why we don't do that more often. I will have to work on it. but still nowadays most of my friends aren't huge beer snobs so I could just serve in a bottle and be done with it.

What was the worst gift?

It was a music box that played Sunday Afternoon in the Park. But it was soooo awful, this plasticky material, and big and ugly and also clearly expensive. And the worst part was, it was chosen especially for me and I could never figure out what about that music box could possibly be associated with me.

I got it out to amuse kids for a few days before we got rid of it, and even the kids got bored with it.
