I generally try not to get worked up when I discover people reposting my graphics or hotlinking, but discovering this site: http://pinkmonster.gportal.hu/ just really irked me today. Pretty much all the Garfield icons she used in the header and side bar are mine. Its like a collage of

No, and I don't really know how. I tried clicking on some of her posts, but I cant find any sort of comment option so far. :/ I'm just not familiar with the language, so its harder to navigate the site. Plus, she might not even understand what I was saying if I did message her. I've come to terms with the fact that LJ icon etiquette doesn't extend to the rest of the internet and most people see images they find as fair game for their own use. :/ Not only that, in the grand scheme of things, I don't have much of a leg to stand on. Sure, I feel like she's ripped off my icons, but at the same time, Jim Davis might not be pleased with how I modified and embellished images from his original comic strip

Yeah, I did the Google translate thing too, on several of her posts.

I usually just let this type of stuff slide when I come across it because its just not worth my time writing up a polite message explaining my complaints when it may or may not be interpreted properly. I'm still debating what to do in this instance, since she's used my icons to make a header AND hotlinking them in the sidebar. :/ I don't really like what she's done to my icons in the header, but at the same time, Jim Davis may not like what I've done with his comic strips, so me complaining to her about that might be seen as hypocritical.

Plus, since its all in Hungarian, I'm having trouble navigating the site and haven't found any comment or messaging options yet. :/ Now that I've ranted and vented about it, I've been able to cool off a bit, so I think I'm going to keep an eye on the hotlinking to see if that effects my bandwidth usage and go from there.

Is there a way to replace the images on Photobucket with something ugly that would show up on her site instead?

It really sucks that people do that. :(

Yeah, I could change the file names of the icons she's hotlinking and then upload another image with the original file name. But that takes more effort, and I'm rather lazy when it comes to this kind of thing. The thought has crossed my mind though, and may still do it.

It does suck, but I've come to terms with the fact that some people see any image they find on the internet as fair game to do with as they please. :/ Now that I've vented about it, I feel a bit better.

That's odd, its not loading for me either. Its asking for a password, but it was completely public yesterday. :/ I was ready to attribute this to the girl being kind of clueless in regards to netiquette, but the site going from public to password locked overnight after I posted about it is a bit fishy. I wonder if the site has a pingback feature and she got notified when I linked to it. If so, locking it all down indicates she's trying to hide what she's done instead of fix it. Luckily, I followed my gut instinct and took screengraps of the site last night, so I still have the proof.

Thanks for the offer. I was able to find an e-mail address last night, but I'm still not sure if I'm going to do something about it, especially since I cant even see the site now. I'm not sure if its worth stirring up drama over. Now that I've vented about it, I'm not as upset as I was initially.

*hugs* Thanks! The site is completely gone now. Not really sure what happened, but its hopefully not an issue anymore.
