Shitty Icon meme

Oct 27, 2011 01:07

I've been meaning to do an icon progression post, but that's going to take awhile to put together. In the meantime (since I just cant get to sleep tonight), I thought I'd do this Shitty Icon Meme I snagged from darlingbones.

WARNING: Some of these are pretty shitty )

I've never made icons (well, I shouldn't say that, but I don't consider taking pic I like and making it smaller using the LJ editor to be making an icon, lol), so I found this really interesting and fun. 'Ribbit' Adama made me laugh! I love the changing trends in icon making. I don't know how many peoples' icons I've squinted at trying to read tiny text, lol.

You've done some beautiful work -- I particularly love Yoda and Picard/'Shinzon (forgive spelling)!

Thank you! And I think you got the Shinzon spelling right.

I don't think I ever tried to read tiny text because I knew it was a pointless endeavor, maybe because I had read other icon makers talking about how they just typed in gibberish since it would be to tiny to read anyway, lol.

Its definitely nice to look back at your progress. I'm not sure I have all the original files for my old icons either, but most of them are still on-line in my LJ scrapbook or photobucket. I basically just went to my very first icon post and went forward from there.

You've certainly grown in your artistic icon making skills.

I personally never hated tiny text. I've used it a lot too, but I don't think it's that bad :-P I use it more as a texture than text.

I might do this meme...but wallpaper version! :-)

Its not that I hate tiny text. Its just that I don't usually care for the look of it. I was never truly happy with any of my icons that had the tiny text effect.

What really frustrated me was when people would have text in a large size and bold enough font that it should have been readable, but wasn't because there was not enough contrast between the text and the background. Like white text on a very soft, pale background. I remember seeing an icon in a LIMS like that. The large, bold text took up nearly half the icon, but I couldn't make it out. I squinted at it for ages and looked at it on 3 different monitors trying to figure out what it was saying. :/ I think the maker did it for artistic effect, but to me, it distracted from the icon rather than complementing the composition.

I'll have to go check out your wallpaper version...probably tomorrow as its already well past my bedtime. My eyes are having trouble staying open, lol.

*giggles* Ribbit? Really? :D

I would honestly do this but most of my oldest icons are forever lost since they were saved on 1) an external drive that went bust and 2) a photobucket account that I deleted.

You have come a long way and I really love what you do with icons! They are always so pretty!

Also?

RIBBIT!

LOL, what can I say? I often struggle thinking up ideas for text. ;-)
