Fact: out of all the AIDS/HIV cases in the U.S., 73% of them are from male to male relationships. Now, I consider myself to be somewhat opened minded, and I would gladly listen to whatever rebuttals are out there, but doesn't this fact hint that perhaps homosexuality is not a good thing? I don't know, I'm just throwing the question out there ( Read more... )

Relax,

First, I am just asking the question. I'm not arguing and was actually hoping someone would write why this is an incorrect reasoning.

Second, who said anything about punishment or nature selection? It isn't that, it is more like, "if you drink a lot of alchohol, you are probably going to get a hangover." This is aside of "punishment" or "selection". It is just something that says, "This practice (whether it be drinking alchohol or having sex with the same sex member) generates unhealthy results (not evil or punishable results)."

Thirdly what you wrote about lesbians is good. Something I will have to think about. Thank you, that is all I wanted when I posted the question.

Not even going to bother. How dense. Who says something like that?

I imagine you could produce similar statistics for other STD's in the heterosexual community. I think the real message is "unprotected sex is a bad thing."

Also, as a scientist, wouldn't you consider the evidence that homosexuality is genetic as grounds to remove it (somewhat) from the the moral realm?

The Philosopher in me says you can't fault people for being what they are. The Theologian adds you can't fault them for being what God made them.

Once again you prove to say what I only wish I had the ability to. I particularly appreciate the last two sentences.

I'm not so sure about what you say about the stastistics of heterosexual relationships. All I know is what I read: out of all the HIV/AIDS cases, about 73% were from people involved in male homosexual relationships and the rest accounted for blood transfusion, drug users, and normal heterosexual relationships.

As a scientist, I would also consider traits such as alchoholism and obesity can also be hereditary (ie genetic). However, you are right, this still removes it from the 'moral' realm. Can something be wrong (bad) and not involve morality? I guess so if I think about it; take smoking for example. Smokers are certainly not "sinning" by lighting up a cigarrette, but it is definetly not good for them.

"The Philosopher in me says you can't fault people for being what they are. The Theologian adds you can't fault them for being what God made them."
Wise words. I think I will have to agree.

Thank you for your input.

Another thing... spujr March 26 2006, 09:46:11 UTC
What I find particularly curious about this fact I found is what is it about male homosexual relationships having a higher HIV/AIDS incident rate than a regular heterosexual relationship? Is the virus more readily available (pardon my french) up the anus than it is in the vagina? Are homosexual men using unprotected sex more than heterosexuals? I imagine it is the later since one doesn't have to worry about unwanted babies.

Just my musings...
