Character Information
Name: Bailey Marie Tancer
LJ Username: (if available) spunkybailey
House: Gryffindor
Age: 15 (since her bday has passed for the schoolyear)
Birthdate: November 20
Gryffindor Scorpio
Expect stamina, incredible courage, intense and stormy emotions, burning idealism, and indomitable will. Gryffindor Scorpios are never drawn in shades of pastel; they are always blood red and mesmerizing gold. There are few followers born under these aspects; Scorpios born into this house tend to be either leaders or loners. They are well placed on the Quidditch field, where their natural competitive streak and their great store of personal energy make them natural Beaters (or, really, naturals at any position on the field). Expect them to get into frequent duels, and expect them to gravitate naturally to DADA, for all Scorpios are fascinated by anything dark and forbidden, and Gryffindor Scorpios will want to take their place as defenders as early in their careers as possible. Expect passion. Expect wisdom. But don't expect a lot of time to take a breather. Many people born under this aspect also end up as Aurors; they're the perfect "bad cops" to the "good cop" Libra wizards.
Year: Fourth

Bloodline: Halfblood
Heritage: English
Personal History: Bailey's mother, Anna Tancer, has somewhat of an odd history herself. She's a muggleborn witch who is usually quite practical, almost cold. She was married once, to Victor Tancer, and with him she had one child -- Bailey's older brother, Scott. Victor was an Auror who, unfortunately, died when Scott was very young. Though Anna tried to support her child on her own, she struggled for a few years -- and thought she'd finally found some help in the way of a wealthy Pureblood man who seemed more than willing to pay for some of her problems in exchange for, er, more interesting things.

Well, that was quite the mistake. The man left as soon as Anna told him that she'd become pregnant with his child; messing around with a muggleborn girl was okay by him, but having a child with her was not. Anna gave birth to a baby girl -- Bailey, who took her mothers last name of Tancer from her first marriage -- but was once again left alone, only this time she was struggling to raise two children. Her job at the Daily Prophet could not support that, since she was not one of the more recognized reporters, and she ended up taking odd jobs whenever she could to try and raise her children.

It was at one of these odd jobs that she met Mark Kinsley -- a halfblood Scottish man who worked as a bartender at The Leaky Cauldron, where she took a temporary job waiting tables. Having lost her first husband and been abandoned by the second man she thought she might have been able to find a connection with, Anna was very weary; but eventually she and Mark ended up together, which has proven to be a very happy union. Mark treats her two eldest children as if they were his own; and they had a child together themselves, a little girl named Jessica.

Even after Anna and Mark got together, there was hardly ever any extra money left over, so Bailey grew up rather poor. Though this bothered Bailey sometimes, she's not really one to sweat something like that too much. She gets along okay with her older brother, though her younger sister is a constant annoyance to her -- too young to know how to have fun, is what Bailey thinks.

She's never known the identity of her father, but she's never cared. She was very young when her mom and Mark got together, and so he has been the father that she's known all her life -- though she knows he isn't her biological father, she loves him and calls him dad, and has told her mom on numerous occassions that she doesn't need a different father.

Being the middle child never bothered Bailey too much, either. Sure, sometimes it seemed as though she got passed over in favor of her siblings, but she knew that her parents loved her all the same. Besides, she's never been one to be clingy or needy with people. She spent most of her time outside, and so long as she could be out there, letting her imagination run wild as she pretended to slay dragons or the like, she was fine.

As much as she loves the outdoors, though, Bailey has one other, much stronger passion -- anything to do with the muggle world. She finds it fascinating, and wishes that she could have grown up in the world instead of the magical one (though she wouldn't trade her magical abilities for anything, either.) She constantly quizzes her mother on anything she can think of, and insists on going with her whenever she ventures to the muggle world to visit family or anything of the like. She discovered muggle music and fell in love, thinks it's so cool. She has a particular fascination with Elvis Presley, of all people.

All of the siblings attend Hogwarts now -- Scott's in his last year, while Jessica is in her first -- and Bailey was sorted into Gryffindor without hesitation from the Sorting Hat. She took to her House like crazy, and to the castle in general -- though not so much to her classes. It's not so much that Bailey can't do well in her classes, but she simply doesn't care about them, for the most part. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw and got good OWLs and NEWTs, and where did that get her? With some basically crummy job, so she figures, why waste her time?

So her time at Hogwarts has been spent less on classwork and more on exploring and flying and having fun, because that's what life is all about, really.

Personality: Bailey is, in a word, spunky. She's hyper and ready to be on the move nearly 24/7. She hates sitting around doing nothing, and she has the attention span of a flea. If something isn't interesting, she can't concentrate on it for longer than a minute or two -- which is why she has such a hard time studying, or doing homework, or reading.

She's very active and loves to be outdoors, where her mind can run wild with all kinds of crazy thoughts and stories. When she was younger she played make-believe like nobodies business, though she won't admit that she still does it sometimes -- definitely not cool enough. But she still gets all these crazy ideas -- some of which she never really takes past initial planning, some of which she actually starts on, but few of which she ever sees through to completion.

Bailey likes that word -- cool. She likes to think that she's a pretty cool person, herself. And the lame people out there? She pretty much just ignores them, because they aren't interesting enough to hold her attention. It's not that she dislikes them, exactly -- it's just that she'll wander off in search of someone who gets her and is willing to have a good time, rather than sit around and try and get someone to see the world from her point of view.

She's never really cared if people don't understand her. People don't understand a lot of things, and she doesn't owe anyone an explanation. But if they do understand her, then that's cool, too. She's not trying to be a mystery or anything like that -- she's just trying to be herself, and she's still discovering who that person is.

Her interests tend to bounce around as much as anything. There have been only two things that have ever held her interest for long periods of time -- muggle culture (because there's so MUCH of it, and her interests within that category change quite often as well) and Quidditch (because the games are so EXCITING, so how could someone NOT love it?!) -- though there is a third one that is slowly adding itself to the list. Boys.

She's at that age where she's starting to become interested in boys -- though, mostly in boys who are older than her. Even the boys her age just aren't as cool. She likes to try and impress them, maybe even flirt with them, though her version of flirting probably involves punching their arm as hard as she can more than anything.

Her rapidly changing interests probably has much to do with the reason she messes with her hair so much, too -- charming it this way and that just for fun. She likes to express herself through how she looks -- the way her hair is done and the color of it, what make-up she's wearing, the clothes she has on (as much as she can with her school robes, at least). It's all very much her trying to put who she feels she is out on display.

Though her interests shift on a near daily basis, no one can say she's not passionate about them. Whatever she might be into at the moment she dives into full-force, ignoring anything else that might have been going on in favor of whatever it is that has caught her fancy.

For the most part, Bailey doesn't care what others think of her -- but that ridiculous notion that Purebloods are better really just sets her off. She'd like to hex the daylights out of anyone who thinks that way, really, because it's absurd. There's really only one other thing that irritates her like crazy, and that's insulting her family. Sure, she might call her sister an annoying little brat, but if someone else does it? She'll use that as an excuse to start something up, probably -- depending on the context, of course.

Even though she might not mean something bad by it, exactly, she likes to mess with the stuck-ups in the school as well. She can be pretty sarcastic, and it's almost like some sort of sport to her -- horribly amusing, really, to watch people get all up in arms about a silly comment or two!

Physical Description: (include hair color, eye color, height, weight, and build at the VERY least) She's 5'3" (just slightly over average for her age) and weighs 110 (again, just barely over average for her age and height... which I took from this site, adding a couple inches/pounds to the 13 that it goes up to.) Her hair is naturally dark and relatively short -- slightly above her shoulders -- though she tends to use charms to change the length or the color whenever she feels the urge. She's slightly over the average weight, but not by much, and anyone who would call her fat would be pretty dumb. She's got some baby fat left on her, though -- which gives her those pudgy cheeks, which many would call cute (though she isn't sure how she feels about that description -- depends on who it comes from!) She's also usually got a nice tan from all her time spent outside.

Hobbies and talents - max of five:
1. Quidditch/Flying
Weaknesses - for every hobby or talent, the character must have two weaknesses:
1. She has the attention span of a flea. There is seriously very little that she can concentrate on for any length of time.
2. Horrible memory -- whether it be someone's name, or what she just learned in class, Bailey doesn't retain things very well.
3. Tone deaf; though it's clear that she doesn't think so, what with the way she runs around the halls of the castle singing constantly. The poor ears of those around her...

Worst subjects - no max: History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Astronomy
