Generally I agree with that idea, but this is pretty blatant. Chord progressions are somewhat limited by the functions of tonality but there's so much versatility in melody that to take both is really kind of shady.

P.S. Screw Coldplay. Same rhythm, same notes in the hook. If anyone asked you how "Rule the World" song goes, you'd sing the part that is very obviously exactly the same as the Satch riff. They are loaded already, I'm sure they can spare to give up some cash. Not that Satriani is starving or anything.
