ah, so. i seem to have lost interest for the most part in writing or talking about dramas in any depth and whatnot but. the central relationship of this show is going to fucking go down in kdrama history, ain't it. this is some next-level shuji/akira-level epic, or beyond.

(i haven't caught up all the way yet, spoil me and die)

A couple people were bitching about the lack of romance and I'm like SERIOUSLY? Are we even watching the same show? Like, no one can tell me they're not a couple and that they're not in love. They are next - next - next level. I don't think I've ever seen a portrayed heterosexual relationship in a drama that was this gay. I'm ridiculously in love with them, tbh.

see, i don't actually see any homoerotic subtext there - which makes it EVEN GREATER to me, because frankly earth-shattering friendships are glorious to me, and in kdramaland everything is sacrificed to romance and this show is single-mindedly about the complexities of their relationship at the expense of everything else. they're like, soulmates and family jagdshg sonuvabitch it's beautiful. i am all over sechan/injae though.

I see what you're saying. And it could really go either way for me but I'm totally with you on the fact that they are soulmates. It's just pure love.

Sechan/Injae are great too. And what I sort of adore more than anything, is the respect that Sechan has for her on a personal and professional level. It makes them so wonderful to watch. I love how they portray platonic relationships on this show because they are just as epic and beautiful as any sort of romance. And in this case, better than any attempt at romance, IMO.

Have you caught up yet?

fandom is all over the slash and i think that's awesome too. this show is actually built to sustain a fandom where 99% of kdramas aren't, there's so much room for backstory fic and secondary character studies. and namsoon and heungsoo - i mean, they can't be in proximity and not be friends? SOULMATES. but then i get as big a kick over their interactions with everybody else. namsoon and youngwoo!!!!! make my heart bleed why don't you. repeatedly. (please).

exactly!!! he is SO invested in her, all those looks he's been sending her way for the past couple of eps. but they haven't added any romantic subtext at all and just like with namsoon/heungsoo it's fine, it's GREAT, even, because there is all the room in the world to read romance into it, but canon is not going to add romance gratuitously, because not every relationship needs physicality to be special and epic and it will not do it without building it up as part of the text ( ... )
