LibraryThing has filled a gap in my life: Where to scribble the titles of all those cool books I hear about and want to get out of the library sometime.

*grin*

I use my Amazon shopping cart for this. After enough months, old entries drop off the bottom.

I have a separate wishlist in Amazon for this sort of thing: books I want to read, but not necessarily own. I use LibraryThing to keep track of the books that I've already read. (Well, since 2006.) The Amazon list is not a perfectly flaky system, but as long as I avoid their (definitely imperfect) recommendations, I can be sure to limit my "to read" list only to the thousands and thousands of books I learn about from other sources.

It's been suggested that we are actually happiest when we have fewer options. I definitely believe that sometimes.

I think what I'd really like is what someone once suggested in the comments section here: a Netflix-queue-like system for interlibrary loan. As it is, I could put my entire list on reserve with the local library...but then they'd pull all of those books at once for me. Which, with however many dozens are on my list right now, is just ridiculous.
