Bottlemania: How Water Went on Sale and Why We Bought It

Jan 01, 2009 10:34

Author: Elizabeth Royte
Pages: 229
Grade: A

A more nuanced and also more alarming read than I expected. Royte even-handedly investigates the rise of bottled water and the unintended consequences on communities, the environment, and our public water supplies while also revealing the flaws in the public water system.

I almost bought this book with a gift card I got for Christmas, but went instead with In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan and The Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz. I've just started In Defense of Food, but it looks interesting so far.

I'm really interested in reading Michael Pollan's books, both In Defense and The Omnivore's Dilemma. I saw him talking to Bill Moyers on PBS and was really intrigued ....

Paradox is on my reading list, too, and Royte's Garbageland.

I bought Paradox of Choice a while back and I still haven't read it yet.

I am very interested in picking up "Consumed" -- it sounds like the kind of book I'd like.

Here's what I bought with my Christmas gift card:

(1) "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell

(2) "Going Broke: Why Americans Can't Hold On To Their Money" by Stuart Vyse
