so beautiful. I'm completely in awe; the pictures of the jacket in progress simply didn't convey how *exactly* like the original you have created this piece.
Thank you so much! It has really been an experience...and I can honestly say that through making this jacket, I have learned to enjoy the process of creation and not just the final product.
Now I'm dying to wear it in public, but I'm in fear of going anywhere with food (stains), alcohol (spills), or smoke (that smell would never come out)...so that rules out most locations. :D
Someone asked me how many hours it took...I wish I had kept track, but I didn't. I wouldn't even know how to estimate! So many evenings of staring in aggravation at pattern pieces, or ripping seams and resewing them. But it was all worth it.
If you don't mind, how did you end up attaching the basque flap to wear runway style? I was thinking a snap on the little curved flap but it looks like that's hanging free on yours.
Well, I took some creative liberties in fitting and finishing my jacket. In order for it to fit me in a flattering manner, I added some extra snaps where needed. I think that for true "runway style," yes, the little half-moon flap on the basque would snap to the front. (I also used extra-wide grosgrain, which was a departure from Galliano's original. I enjoyed being faithful to his pattern, but also making it my own with unique touches.)
^_^ It really is addictive...I'm already toying with the idea of making another one, and what fabrics I would use. I adore the red satin, but it makes the jacket even fancier than it already is. Now I'm thinking about cottons or twills, for a more "everyday" version, although I'm definitely happy that I went all-out on the first one.
Oh my goodness, I can't believe I'm talking about starting this craziness all over again!!

Must have been quite painstaking.
