I haven't seen DSG, but I had to comment because your first two paragraphs are so beautiful, and so true.

(We'll skip the part where my heart is apparently aligned crooked in my chest. It's true, and it's genetic. I discovered it in physiology lab back at Uni when my leads gave some EKG lines.)

Particularly that line about thrill and despair - that encounter with the sublime. The "it is so beautiful, it hurts"; the "this is agony or ecstasy, I cannot tell, and I do not wish to know." It's just lovely.
