part birthday selfishness, part looking out for my people

in trying to figure out how much of dancing at clubs is overtly sexual & how much is self-expression and where and how the two overlap, i've found that i have more questions than answers and wanted to start a dialog. i posted this bulletin on myspace because i felt violated again after going out on thursday night ( Read more... )

yay!
i totally have more thoughts on this whole situation-- i spent an hour talking to my male nigerian friend about how women sexualize him and men compete with him in rude ways on the dance floor (and how both those reactions bother him)

to be honest, i've never noticed, but then again, i dance without my glasses as a way of not being able to see the other people in the room stare at me as i dance cuz i always feel like everyone is lookin' at me funny.

p.s. i really enjoy dancing with you.

I read your blog on myspace first, but it's nice to leave comments on here since it's more like our own private blog. I actually have never really noticed what you are talking about, the only hestitation I've had in going to congress recantly is that it's been so crowded. The last time we went out was really fun, I feel like our crew forms a protective circle that no one can penetrate, and it's nice being in our own world. Don't worry next week you are going to have a good time in good company.
I stopped by your house this morning, so stop by mine later mommacita.

yay for emma!

i got home from running around all morning at 3pm and saw your note and checked my voicemeail. i had promised to clean up the house i was housesitting for the folks who were coming back to it last night and by the time i was finished i crashed out (i set my alarm to remind me that i should make my way over to your house but i couldn't get up-- this seems to be my pattern and it's unsettling).

much love to you.
