I used to live in Dix Hills. It is generally very nice, so long as you aren't on the southern fringe. Which of the school districts is it in? That will tell you a lot.
That is my worry too. I think it may be the southern fringe.
The school district is Half Hollow and it is .8 miles north of the front door of Paumanok Elementary School.
It is 1.5 miles north of Old Country Road which is the southern border of the school district. Its 2 miles north of acorn st., wyndanch and 1.5 miles south of the LIE. Looks like the Deer Park School District falls south of us.
I was actually driving through the area this morning, destined for a place in Deer Park, just south of Old Country Road. The School district has always had a great reputation among the community. I am sure Liz knows the real deal.
As for the neighborhood, you seem pretty insulated by deer park, which puts you on a better part of the southern fringe.
It was a very good school. West was just over 200 seniors, but they offered a lot of APs and had just about everything. It was a good environment lots of opportunities. I did some research at Stony Brook in one of programs, I can't remember the details of the program now... West had track, and a pool.

Can't recall where your parents live? I guess you don't visit much!
