Kazoku Game Episode 1 Thoughts

Before I start, just wanted to thank everyone for their support and kind comments on certain posts and tweets of mine recently. I appreciate every kind word very much and hope not to disappoint. I know it'll take time and there are a lot of things about me that need to be fixed, but I hope to do my best over the next year or so ( Read more... )

I want to reply with NO, IT'S NOT TRYING TO BE KASEIFU NO MITA, but I haven't seen Kaseifu, so I can't make that argument without sounding extremely... incompetant ( ... )

I also want to say it's not trying to be Mita and I really hope it's not trying to be Mita, but it really is impossible for me not to compare. (Go check out Mita and Aishiteru! Great dramas! If you like Kazoku Game, you'll probably really like them too.) I think the reason why the family doesn't really stick out for me in this is because there's a very strong focus on the home tutor, whereas in the two series I'm comparing it with, the main protagonist and/or outsiders were fairly quiet and the families moved and did things over the top of them ( ... )

I share many of the same thoughts, like afraid that some of the dysfunctional reasons may be a little cliche and similiar to what's been done before (aka Mita), so hopefully it'll have better development.

I think one of the reasons why the family members' presence aren't that "strong" is because of their disconnect as a family, so we end up seeing mostly Yoshimoto+member and little to no member+member interactions (this may be a screenplay thing rather than a character thing). But I thought the Mom's presence was pretty strong tho, albeit very typical housewife but she does speak to me as a character.

Overall, still happy with first episode and hope it maintains its viewers :D

Now that you say it, I think you have a point. There were a lot of Yoshimoto + family member interactions and few direct family member + family member interactions. And that did put a lot of the focus on Yoshimoto.

I thought there were a couple of scenes that were good at telling how her character has problems (ie she cares more about what the neighbors would think if the police arrived at her doorstep than actually stopping Yoshimoto) but I felt these needed to be stronger (her spraying the garbage because it stinks was kind of pushed) and not followed by a line of dialogue from Yoshimoto about it.

I am happy with the first episode too and even though it got a 12% rating (Mita's first was 19%) I'm hoping it improves, stays intense, doesn't draw any more similarities to Mita, and gains more viewers. :)

I would somehow have to agree with this particular drama trope you're mentioning about dysfunctional families and the like. I guess its a cultural thing. Where I come from, its always a 'cinderella-like' story so I hardly watch dramas or soaps.

With regard to Sho being the focus, I guess I'd also have to agree as the story seems to me more about him in this particular episode. Then again, since its just the 1st ep, there may be better development in the story as well as focusing on the other members of the family.

Also, either the scriptwriter or the director has a hand at the extremes that Yoshimoto's character is being prodded to do. I'm still hopeful about it too.

the arashi stans have already digged it up, it's a men's bag, about 700 bugs O.o but yeah, it's waaaay too bigXDDD

i can't make any comparison, as i don't know the dorama you're refering to, but... from what i read/learned during my years at university, and from witnissing stuff every now and then, japanese families are close to that? they of course not always come with all the traits, but i know the salary man that rather drink with nice young women instead of going home after work... and i know those mothers who care about nothing but how they are seen by the neighbours. for the rest, well, bullying is a huge thing in japan, so i guess adding that so strongly was a good decision. and while you said you couldn't concentrate on the family, because of sho's hummy acting ( i love his hummy acting <3) i very much felt sorry for the son. like totally... i hadn't expected to understand him that much, because seriously, sho was the main part in this^^;;; but i still did.i kinda hope, that they'll take the focus a bit away from him for the ( ... )
