Anime night.

I am not very happy with our current system. Doing the math - 6 hours = 360 minutes. At 20-30 minutes an episode, if each person chooses 2 episodes, that should be 40-60 minutes a person. That's 6-9 people's worth of anime, and we got through 3 tonight ( Read more... )

I don't think the 2-episodes-apiece thing was ever going to work satisfactorily. I think that instead of just constantly starting new series like we have been doing, that we should make a list of the series we have been watching somewhat consistently (such as Stand Alone, Haibane, Black Heaven, Bleach, etc.) and then watch an episode or two of each of those every anime night. I think we should only plan out maybe two-thirds of the time we have, because there is going to be talking in-between, and queueing up the next show, and stuff like that. If we have any time left over after watching our regular shows, then we can maybe watch a new show that somebody brings in. If we find new shows we really want to watch, put them on the bottom of the regulars list, and we'll get to them when we finish one of the regular shows ( ... )

As long as we're baring our souls and whatnot, let me be frank in a variety of ways ( ... )

Oh, I forgot to mention one other thing. If people like my proposal, I would be willing to increase my hosting of anime night to every week (if that's what people want) If we start watching shows in order, it will hold my interest a lot better, and I don't want to miss episodes.

Conversation with Truent2

(14:03:52) Restless Warrior: Hey Jake. Did you see Lucas's rant about last night?

(14:03:57) Truent2: i did indeed

(14:04:02) Restless Warrior: Did you see my comment?

(14:04:08) Truent2: no, i dont tend to read comments

(14:04:21) Restless Warrior: Oh, please read it, if you don't mind. I have a proposal for how to handle things. =)

(14:08:12) Truent2: um.. just to refute that lucas only shows up on time this is really my first actual late, and welcome to the club of people sick of no one else showing up on time

(14:08:23) Restless Warrior: I'm not sick of it.

(14:08:31) Restless Warrior: Actually, Lucas complains about it a lot, but it doesn't bother me.

(14:08:50) Restless Warrior: I mention it because it matters for deciding when to do the "grab bag" and such.

(14:08:51) Truent2: I think its annoying but the scheduling thing fixes that because if someone misses shit then theres no worrying whos seen what, go see it on your own time

(14:08:58) Restless Warrior: Exactly.

(14:09:44) Truent2: however you are ( ... )

To clarify, I was only mentioning 3 episodes per show as a possibility if for some reason we wanted to watch more than 2 episodes, AND if we only had four shows scheduled per night and the rest was grab bag time. Otherwise it wouldn't work.

ALl of that sounds pretty good. I'm still a little ambivalent on when to put the grab bag, but you're right, 16 minutes of padding per hour seems to be okay. I guess part of the question on grab bag hour is when Cramer can make it - he introduces about 90% of the new stuff.

This is actually very similar to a system I was kicking around for if the group got too large for the 2 episode thing to be useful. I simply assumed that people wouldn't accept something where they couldn't name the episodes. But since there seems to be a lot of support for it, I say shoot it at the list.

Also, I think we should get directions to your house and how to contact me into the list FAQ.

I concur. This idea seximafy's the idea of anime night in my brain.
