It's been an insanely busy time, but somehow we are keeping our heads above water.  :)

Okay, so here's the deal with Elliot's school thus far:  The first day went really badly, as many of you know.  The teacher was obviously not a good fit with Elliot, and we pulled him from her class.  He was supposed to have a one-on-one aid, but the school was ( Read more... )

holy crap, mama!! I am so appalled that the school district isn't complying... sounds like grounds for a class-action lawsuit, actually. Laz's school is facing the same situation: they can't hire the aides they need (Laz is supposed to spend some time every day one-on-one, and does not get that; I'm about to start raising hell) -- and yet they somehow found the money to put in fancy, VERY expensive lights on the football field so they can have night games. It's nothing short of despicable in my book. ANYhoo, your plan sounds good and I hope everything works out soon. big hugs to you.

Thank so much. Yeah, you should definitely raise hell if Laz isn't getting his services as stated in the IEP. It's the law, they have to follow it. Isn't it frustrating that they don't just do what they're supposed to, and we have to police them? AUGH. Big hugs right back to you, mama.

I'm sorry, it sounds like your school district takes the same approach as ours... cheaper to get sued by a few parents than provide appropriate services for everyone eligible. I hope everything else on your plate goes well!

you might not be complaining about all that's on your plate - but I would be! (and it would be in a grating terrible whiny voice too with occasional shrieks)

I hope that things get ironed out. And I agree it's just so wrong that you need to go through it at all.

It all seems to come down to money, doesn't it? Federal mandates are unfunded. So then it's left to the states who also don't fund properly. And the school district is left to do whatever it can with the few scraps it receives. And someone like our sweet Elliot pays the price.

I didn't realize that the reason the aide didn't come to him right away was because she was aide to the whole class.

Yeah, the aid thing is weird. She was actually supposed to be Elliot's one-on-one aid, but before that she was the classroom aid so she didn't have the experience to really do it right.

So did she lose her job now that Elliot is gone?

Oh no no no. She is still the classroom aid for that classroom.
