(There was a knot in her chest that Orihime didn't want to call fear)

Stay in pairs, echoed in her ears as she hurried down the corridor. Well- Orihime wasn't in a pair... yet. Namine needed help and that was something Orihime could do. If she moved quickly and didn't make much noise, she wouldn't run into any of the inferi. Other people were out fighting the inferi- and though Defence Against the Dark Arts was one of her best subjects...

No. Other people were better at that sort of thing that her. She should do as everyone said and stick to looking after others.

Turning a corridor, Orihime had run a few metres before she realised the figure at the far end wasn't a teacher- No one alive lurched like that- or looked like that... She gasped (the knot tightened) and then clapped a hand over her mouth as the thing swivelled around towards her ( ... )

(did it just feel that way, or had that cry really turned her blood into ice?) Then the sound of two voices wailing and then silence. Mouth dry, palms sweating, heart beating, Orihime went still. Listening as hard as she could for any sound that could tell here where the inferi were.

A scream, joined by two more told her that it hadn't been her imagination. And they sounded like they were right outside- they must have followed the last inferi.

Under her breath she whispered the warding charm they'd learnt only last week and set it across the door. She needed to... she needed to keep them away from herself. There were desks between her and the door- but that wouldn't be enough... She needed to be sure that they were all destroyed so no one else would be bothered-

Three Banshees appeared in the doorway as Orihime retreated to the far side of the room. (the knot had risen to her chest now, like a lead weight cementing her feet to the floor) The first spotted Orihime and screeched, and Orihime could have sworn the three of them ( ... )
