I stand.
My head empties.
My heart empties.
I look at her. She’s watching me, her eyes narrowed, waggling her finger at me. She is always looking for the fault in me. She is searching for a coherent thought, struggling for a coherent feeling. And, I watch her labor and I watch her fail.
“I brought you into this world…” she says to me. I reach out and catch her pointing finger in my hand. Slowly, I let it go.
“And you can take me out.” I mumble to myself, but she’s never been able to hear what I’m saying.
