LJ implemented this thing where you can crosspost your comments to Twitter and/or Facebook. This should be obvious, but I would like you all to refrain from posting your comments to my journal to Twitter and/or Facebook since the vast majority of my posts are friends-only. I have a public blog over at WordPress and that's fine so long as you do not ( Read more... )

I don't even understand why you'd want to post a freaking reply to someone's journal entry on a totally different social network.

I think LJ's trying to be like other blogging platforms that do have this kind of functionality. I wonder if they even realize that most users use LJ in ways far more personal than they would another blogging platform.

Oh, thank you! I really got weirded out by the cross-posting thing. It's just such a terrible idea. (This is like my hub, but every other networking site I belong to doesn't link to any other one, and none of them link here. So, ugh, just no, Livejournal. What a stupid option. Jesus, how embarrassing would it be to repost, let's say, this comment on my FB profile? Horrible.) Thank god I haven't connected Twitter/FB as extensions for here.

Mind if I repost your tips in my LJ?

Not at all. Go right ahead!

NEW TIP: I found this just a few minutes ago before I commented to lovelyaffairs:

If you add #fblo {display: none;}
to the CSS (before or after my first CSS code, doesn't matter), people can't see the Facebook option for the "from" field. You know, Anonymous, Logged in user, Facebook, Open ID. The code I just stated gets rid of the Facebook line completely. I'll add this to my post soon.

Probably the CSS.

...And I just did some more testing and find if you add #fblo {display: none;}
to the CSS then, people can't see the Facebook option for the "from" field. You know, Anonymous, Loggin user, Facebook, Open ID. The code I just stated gets rid of the Facebook line. I'll add this to my post soon.

Yeah 'cause if you don't put your Twitter or Facebook info into LJ, how can you accidentally repost your comments to there? ;)

With the CSS option, the "Repost to: [ticky box] Facebook [ticky box] Twitter" would be merely be "Repost to:" so friendslocked posts would be secure again, to my knowledge.
